Veterinary dermatologists are trained to recognize, diagnose, and treat skin diseases in animals. Dermatologic problems can manifest as itchiness, scabbing, poor coat, or hair loss. Diseases of the skin can include allergies, infectious and parasitic skin disorders, immune mediated diseases, or possibly skin cancer.

Veterinary dermatologists use tests to diagnose pets with these disorders—those tests include allergy testing, skin scraping, bacterial or fungal cultures, cytology, or biopsy. Your dermatologist will discuss your pet’s condition and all treatment options with you in detail.
